After his successful run as the frontman of boyband ‘The Scheme’, singer-songwriter Kris James decided to launch his solo music project in 2018. Since then, he has released a collection of bold pop singles that have become part of his self-titled debut album, which was released on November 5th. In his new album, Kris shares songs that resonate with his introspective journey through intimate lyrics that are uplifting and engaging.
Kris James Album Tracklist
The self-titled album begins with a feel-good track called Naive – featuring hopeful melodies, bouncy beats and playful lyrics. Kris sings about how he’s come out a happier man after overcoming the ups and downs of relationships in a track that’s full of optimism.
Get Back To Love is a bass-driven dance track with an upbeat rhythm and sultry vocals. This song has a funky groove that would play well at a party, with the guitars and drums blending together to make an appealing combo!
Track three, Addicted to You, starts off with melancholic melodies and Kris’ emotional vocals. With a piano as the primary accompaniment, there are a lot of moving chordal changes throughout the cinematic song that add to the engaging listening experience.
Similar to the opening track, Nine Lives is an uplifting pop-EDM banger that features hopeful synth melodies, catchy hooks and fun lyrics. – “Have we had our nine lives / It’s time to realise / Find a way back to life we had for love wouldn’t last forever.”
Eyes Open, Kris’ debut single release, which made its way to the UK Top 30 charts, is a heart-warming, guitar-driven pop track that you’d love to dance to! The song explores a bad breakup and the repercussions of such an experience. The message he conveys is that anything is possible if you keep your eyes wide open and hope for the best!
With a melody reminiscent of Coldplay’s The Scientist, track number six comprises a piano and strings that accompany Kris’ nostalgic vocals on the beautifully titled, Unhappy Anniversary. He sings about the pains he’s experienced and has translated the feeling wonderfully through his powerful voice here.
Dreamer is introduced with hard-hitting drums and punchy basses. The up-tempo track includes strong lyrics and confident vocals that are quite appealing and sound great with the somewhat heavy instrumentation.
I’ll be here when your falling, here, I’ll catch you when you fall / No more tears, no need to hide away / It’s alright I got this, I’ll catch you when you fall.” – I’ll Be Here features Kris’s reassuring lyrics and his heartfelt singing. Mellow guitar riffs, fat basses and an array of electronics create a fantasizing atmosphere that supports the melody wonderfully.
With hard-hitting beats and energetic drops, Anymore is a track filled with infectious melodies you’ll have a hard time getting out of your head. A top-notch production, composed with a lot of sophistication and is quite energetic as well.
The final track of the self-titled album is a melodic fusion track that is an eclectic blend of EDM, hip-hop and pop. One Last Picture emphasizes Kris’ talents as a songwriter, and I must say, stands out from the rest of the album because of how intriguing its structure is. With its excellent acoustic guitar melodies, wide synths and powerful basses, the track seems to be an amalgamation of all the best sounds heard so far and is truly a masterpiece!
