David Sirkis – Unleash Your Wild Self | Wild Fusion

Accomplished virtuoso Israeli drummer and composer David Sirkis really does justice to the title of his latest debut single Unleash Your Wild Self. Sirkis is an alumnus of New York’s New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music. He served a residency at the Fat Cat jazz club with trumpeter Don Hahn who had played with the likes of Buddy Rich. Moving back to Tel Aviv due to covid in 2020, he has risen to be one of the top drummers in the country and playing with greats like Shai Maestro, Barak Mori, Amit Friedman, and others.

The instrumental begins with some snare hits full of conviction proceeding us into a modal jazzy world with cerebral chord changes. We hear some fine wind instrument virtuosity courtesy of Itamar Borochov on the trumpet and Yuval Drabkin on the tenor saxophone. We are treated to the finely toned and sweetly phrased guitar performance by Yoav Eshed and the phenomenal Guy Moskovich on the piano. Holding it all together is bassist Oren Hardy who doesn’t (or does at opportune polyrhythmic moments) skip a beat providing the firm rhythmic foundation. The middle section of the song is a joy in modern jazz fusion soloing. A magical alchemy of musical genius and expression.

With its complex rhythms, mesmerizing motifs, and intricate improvisation, this song is sure to captivate the listener from start to finish. The song features dazzling impeccably mesmerizing melodic and rhythmic work. David Sirkis with Unleash Your Wild Self crafts a breathtaking modern jazz fusion instrumental that showcases compositional genius and the talents of some of the most innovative musicians in the genre.
