Cloud Studies revive the beautiful, rich melodies of shoegaze with their eponymous debut album. You can count on this experience to be reverently human, exciting in energy and the kind of retro revisit that reminds you of your first encounter with classic rock. Shoegaze wrapped and drenched in a chamber of thoughtful echoing, this is one for that archive collection.
Opening with the very expansive Cloud Cartography, you’re taken back to listening to the New Wave energy of The Cure and Joy Division. I like the simplicity of the recording fuzz that dominates the track. An organic jam and discussions between musicians made this happen. The choice of tones is something that dominates the feel of this album. If you’re listening to dream pop, isn’t it better to stay afloat?
Rather than stack similar-sounding tracks close together, you’re shown a whole new world with Dreams About. There is a dominance of the rhythm, more of a driving energy and switch up in gear felt. Richer ambiences and varied composition styles are peppered all across this EP. Cloud Studies create every track liftoff as a dynamic approach to songwriting and showcasing their appreciation for the genres that have inspired them.
This is indie composition brilliance on display, available on the 19th of June 2026. Follow Cloud Studies on Instagram to get more news on their music!
