Proklaim has been steadily making wave over wave in the industry; putting one good single out after another, this time, he returns to the studio for his latest release, “Promised Land” — keep reading for my thoughts!
Born a lyricist, Proklaim takes no second guesses before returning to his heavier hip-hop style, while still including blends from his more singing-heavy, pop style; but make no mistake, this is a hip-hop track through and through. As layers over layers bring rhymes in cascades, the themes that Proklaim talks about, he does so with a fluent, fluid flow that sits perfectly atop the boom-bap, 00s hip-hop styled beat. The synths and the basses accentuate the rhymes quite nicely, while the drumming keeps the tempo flowing with much aplomb.

The vocal performance on “Promised Land” is the standout here, and that’s set from the very start. Proklaim adopts a story telling, intensely technical approach to his delivery here, often melding lines together in his rhyme schemes, unafraid to switch his flows up dynamically for maximum impact. “Promised Land” also sees him experiment with flow transitions, ad-libs that genuinely slap, and an execution that’s testament to the way he’s evolving as an artist.
The production on “Promised Land”, as I may have earlier alluded to, is delightfully old-school with accurate, tasteful synths, and there’s much to appreciate about the mix that keeps the energy focused on the delivery, that’s front and centre. With deep basses that rumble and synths that waft around in the sonic atmosphere, there’s a certain ethereal polish to this track that I find to quite my appreciation.
All in all, “Promised Land”, by Proklaim: A track that’s sure to get your grooving, and is rather unapologetic while at it. Take a listen to the track here!
