Olivia Morreale – Wasting Daylight | Kaleidoscope

Following the successful release of her previous EP, “Space Dreams”, LA-based singer-songwriter and producer Olivia Morreale recently came out with her first single of the year, “Wasting Daylight”. The artist incorporates a neo-soul-inspired, 90s-reminiscent sound in her music through a colourful mix of elements from multiple genres. Her latest release features live horns, jazzy guitars and one of the most angelic vocal melodies I’ve heard in a while.

A melancholic guitar accompanies Olivia’s vocals over a bed of harmonies to start off “Wasting Daylight”. She sings a heartfelt tune over an excellently played bass and a tight drum rhythm. “And I, I can’t help wasting daylight thinking ‘bout you / I want to spend my precious time thinking ‘bout you / I can’t help wasting daylight thinking ‘bout you / Oh, no matter how I try, I’m thinking ‘bout you”.

As the track progresses, Olivia moves into an introspective space and explores the need for self-reflection in her life. In a captivating instrumental bridge, the song takes on a different colour with a warm guitar solo and soft horns. Olivia’s previous releases are very electronica-centric, though, she’s gone for a different, somewhat acoustic-centric sound on her new single. With just the right amount of tension, the song flows into the final chorus amidst vibrant melodies and Olivia’s favourite array of harmonies. “Wasting Daylight” is an amazing start to the year for the artist, I must say!
