The Ghost of Fu Kang Walker-Where Wolves and Wiccans Roam | Sludge fest

Sell me that tone for a million and I would buy it. Stoner rock/metal often takes a backseat in listener’s preferences. No, there’s no stoner joke there. The Ghost of Fu Kang Walker don’t give a lizards tail about preferences. They swerve between genres like ocean currents, unpredictable and with a lot of consequence. Where Wolves and Wiccans Roam is their 2021 single, a pacemaker on Quaaludes.

This single predates their quick, catchy single The Prophecies released recently. The 2021 track is a slow sludge jam, instantly recognizable with that heavy gain guitar crunch. That pedal giving the tone has a right to entitlement of property and pasture. Using the dreaded doom sound of the guitar and live instruments, the vocals kick in. Part King Diamond & Part Iron Maiden, the track blends in The Ghost of Fu Kang Walker in equal proportion. As we’re riveted in our seats for a drawn out headbanger, they change pace.

That takes some gall. Especially when your riff can’t be absolutely fresh because the tuning and theme demand 150 riffs in a song. Legend has it that a King Gizzard fan counts riffs with their toes as well. TGFKW take it up a notch and place their trust on their catchy riff, accented well with the harmonics on the bass. The breakdown makes it especially special. The Pennsylvania rockers recognize the sludge, and honor it.

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
