Cove is the Italian musical sensation led by award-winning bassist and songwriter Tommaso Monaco, also known as Tomm. With Vittorio Dal Maso’s refined drumming and Mattia Sottoriva’s eccentric guitar parts, this ensemble marks its entrance onto the global stage with “Rain”– keep reading for my thoughts on how they fare this time around!
From the very opening notes, we’re settled into a smooth flow of guitars, and silky smooth vocals, all laid atop a drumming pattern that eternally seems to both make your groove, and make you confused; one second you’re counting to the four, then suddenly, you’re counting the five and the six; lest I get too technical, I will say this much: the beautiful layering of the various time signatures here breeds something that quite remains stuck in your head.

As the song evolves, we’re strapped in for the ride as we get to the pre-chorus; when we’re suddenly jolted with a switchup and a boost of energy in the track; very welcome, I’ll say, adding quite a bit of flair, especially in the drumming and guitars department. The vocals, all this while, remain firmly seated yet free to move about in the mix, and that yields “Rain” a kind of cohesion that we will come back to.

The production, as I was just alluding to, is an energy-packed, fun affair that never once lets you off the hook, constantly charming you with its charisma, and its layering; especially towards the end with the solo, this production elevates the vocals and the rest of the ensemble along with itself rather very well.
