Archways bring some classic Brit indie rock energy on “Victoria”

London band Archways are carving out a name in the UK indie and art rock scene. They’ve been called “one of the capital’s hype-worthy breakthrough bands” by the Evening Standard and have already played sold-out shows at The Lexington, Camden Assembly, and O2 Islington. We have a look into the hype and give a listen to their latest single “Victoria“, and boy are we not disappointed!

The track kicks off with a folk-sounding guitar intro that’s simple but inviting. Then the drums hit, and suddenly the song is propelled. Tight, punchy, and full of groove, the grooev and rhythm pulls you in. The guitars weave around it, sometimes clean and steady, sometimes soaring into bright lead parts. Archways know how to let the song breathe without overloading the mix. What I love here are the amazing mix, guitar layers, and punchy drums.

The drum work here especially give the track its drive, keeping everything sharp and alive. By the time the song closes with a searing guitar solo, it feels both climactic and natural. Archways don’t overdo it, but they don’t hold back either. The music here reminds me of REM, Mumford & Sons, also a bit of The Smiths, some Oasis, even early Coldplay. Makes sense, it’s a cool Brit indie rock after all.

So “Victoria” is catchy, confident, and played with heart. It proves Archways are more than just another buzz band. They’ve got a bonafide song that sticks.
