“Exit Plan” by Sophia Petro: A refreshing, feel-good pop track!

Meet Sophia Petro, the Country/Pop sensation from Melbourne, Australia. Influenced by the sounds of Taylor Swift, Maisie Peters, and Gretta Ray, Sophia’s music unveils a raw and honest portrayal of her life experiences, delving into the realms of romance and platonic connections. Combining elements of folk and country with a contemporary pop twist, Sophia’s songs showcase lush backing vocals, dream-like production, and rhythmic guitar layers; and on her highly-anticipated latest release, “Exit Plan”, keep reading for my thoughts on how she makes it happen!

Sophia’s sound, right from the get go, is what one would describe as soft, intimate, and easy on the ears– there are no grandiose displays of energy here, no loud instruments commanding the auditory space; yet there is a certain kind of beauty in being laid-back that “Exit Plan” captures perfectly. As we move from the soft, sung interludes to the rather energetic choruses, we’re still reminded of the prowess that Sophia possesses as a songwriter, and it comes together quite beautifully.

The production is studded with elements that contribute to the mix in their own cute ways, from the percussion in the background, to the strummed clean electric guitar chords that fill up the gaps amazingly; and to top this all off, the vocal layers that Sophia brings to us on “Exit Plan” are nothing short of excellent; with great use of harmony and space in the mix, especially during the refrains and choruses, this is one well-produced track, and I loved every minute.

When we come to the way this song is mixed, there is excellent movement down low, with just the right amount of articulation and personality in the bass, while the rest of the spectrum remains very animated and full of life throughout the runtime of this track; with great use of the stereo field, allocating space to each instrument of the mix so as to not sound muddy and all over the place. Very well put together, I’ll say, just like the rest of the track– and it’s sure to amaze you similarly to how it amazed me. Check the track out here!
