Destiny Imani’s Sensual and Electrifying R&B Synth Pop Is “Out In The Open, Pt. 1”

Californian artist Destiny Imani‘s debut EP, “Out In The Open, Pt. 1“, is a mesmerizing blend of R&B, electro pop, and synth. With just three songs and a total running length of 12 minutes, Imani’s EP manages to leave a lasting impression on the listener.

The record begins with “Loving You”, an electro synth pop track that features really cool liquid smooth water-like sounding synths. The vocals are smooth like milkshake and whisky, combined with magnificent production and magic with respect to space and time-based effects, which really created a vivid and sensory experience. The rumbling synth bass comes up in the second half and gives a strong foundation to this sparsely produced song, giving it a certain density.

The second track, “Made For Me”, is more pondering and retrospective, with stunning production work to savour in this beautiful track with its soundscaping arrangement. The record by Destiny Imani concludes with “Until The End Of Time”, beginning with a chirpy starry lick, a perfect conclusion to this trilogy.

Imani’s roots in gospel music shine through in her powerful and vulnerable songwriting, but her music though derived from it, is a far cry from traditional gospel. Instead, she blends her soulful vocals with contemporary R&B and synth-pop sounds that remind you of The Weeknd. The compositions on the record have a fine balance in terms of groove, melody, and harmonic arrangement, which showcases Imani’s incredible talent as a songwriter and performer.

The production work is incredibly impressive, with magnificent work done by DRE DUPRE. The soundscapes and sonic textures created by Dupre elevate Imani’s already excellent songs to new heights, making the music an electrifying and sensual experience for the listener.
