She has released four new songs, including the bittersweet single ‘Patient Zero’, on the expanded edition of her 2025 album, ‘The Life Of A Showgirl: The Encore’.
The newly released edition, out today (September 25), also features ‘Cleveland!’, ‘Pink Clouding’ and ‘Babylon’. Taylor Swift co-wrote all four tracks with Max Martin and Shellback after travelling to Sweden to celebrate the album’s record-breaking success.
‘Patient Zero’ is a polished pop number driven by electronic percussion and sweeping strings. The track uses the metaphor of an infection to explore a destructive relationship, with Swift addressing another woman involved with her former partner. She warns her about his deceptive nature and describes herself as the original survivor of the experience.
Swift teased the single earlier this week by replacing several instances of the letter ‘O’ with zeroes across her social media accounts, sparking speculation about a new musical era.
The song’s accompanying music video, featuring Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, will premiere at the MTV VMAs on September 27. Swift directed the video, with Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki handling cinematography.
