The Swedish progressive metal legends have announced the opening acts for their upcoming two-city India tour.
With Dirge joining the Mumbai show on October 3 and Rainburn and Fallen Letters opening the Bengaluru concert on October 4.
Presented by Bighorn and produced by SkillBox, the shows will take place at The Ballard Pier Downtown Experience Centre in Mumbai and Bharatiya Mall of Bengaluru. The concerts form part of Opeth’s globe-trotting The Last Will and Testament Tour, supporting their 14th studio album, released in 2024.
Mumbai-based metal band Dirge will join Opeth at The Ballard Pier Downtown Experience Centre on October 3. The band will set the stage for the Swedish outfit’s first-ever performance in Mumbai, marking a new chapter in Opeth’s relationship with Indian audiences.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru’s Rainburn and Fallen Letters will support Opeth at Bharatiya Mall of Bengaluru on October 4. The announcement brings together three Indian acts from the country’s heavy music circuit for the two concerts, giving local audiences an opportunity to catch homegrown talent alongside an internationally recognised progressive metal act.
Opeth’s return follows their previous Indian appearance at NH7 Weekender in Pune in November 2019. The band first performed in the country in January 2009 at Saarang, IIT Madras, and previously played Bengaluru at the Summerstorm Festival in February 2012.
Frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt had hinted at the band’s India return during a 2025 interview with Sinusoidal Music, describing India as one of his favourite countries to perform in.
The upcoming shows will feature material from The Last Will and Testament, which saw Opeth revisit their progressive death metal roots, alongside selections from their extensive catalogue. The album also marked a return to Åkerfeldt’s death metal growls, blending the band’s heavier sound with intricate progressive arrangements.
