Bangalore Open Air 2026: Technical Glitches, Crushing Riffs and Metal Mayhem

Bangalore Open Air 2026 brought India’s metal community together on October 10 for a day of crushing riffs, relentless mosh pits and international heavyweights. Inspired by Germany’s legendary Wacken Open Air, the festival delivered a stacked lineup, although technical difficulties occasionally threatened to disrupt the chaos.

There is a unique kind of resilience found in a metal crowd. Even as the afternoon sun beat down with relentless intensity, metalheads turned up in droves, ready to weather the heat for a day of pure sonic devastation. If you were at Bangalore Open Air (BOA), you know it was nothing short of legendary. From blistering thrash and punishing black metal to melodic doom and old-school Swedish death metal, here is how the day went down.

Setting the Stage: Local Heroes and Festival Vibes

Kicking off the festival under the blazing sun was Indian-leg winners and Wacken representatives Midhaven. Despite the sweltering heat, they delivered a stellar opening set that immediately captured the audience’s attention and set the high-energy tone for the day.

Right on their heels came The Down Troddence. Frontman Munz commanded the stage with his signature guttural growls and magnetic presence, treating the crowd to a mix of fan favorites alongside fresh cuts from their new album.

Aside from the stellar lineup, the festival experience was top-notch. Food and beverage options were plentiful and remarkably reasonable for a live event, featuring crowd-pleasers like Domino’s, Nizam’s, PVR, and California Burrito. Music gear enthusiasts also got a treat at the Yamaha booth, which showcased an impressive display of amps and guitars.

Best of all? Free water kept the dehydrated masses going through the brutal mosh pits.

Midday Madness: From Atmospheric Depth to Thrash Fury

German/international post-metal powerhouse The Ocean took over next, weaving their signature atmospheric soundscapes. Despite running into a few pesky sound issues and an untimely power outage mid-set, they pushed through and delivered a mesmerizing performance.

Finally, things shifted into high gear with the thrash powerhouses Nervosa. Blistering pace, flawless execution, and face-melting guitar solos defined a set that was pure, old-school thrash metal at its absolute finest.

Norwegian black metal veterans 1349 followed with a darker, more punishing attack. Relentless blast beats and heavy chugs on steel plunged the venue into a grim atmosphere. But the band also encountered technical difficulties. After starting their set, they had to stop midway because of further power and sound problems. The interruptions proved frustrating, particularly during a performance built around maintaining an uncompromising wall of sound. Their vocalist donning an Indian shirt dissed the technicians, and joked about top 3 things he came here for including cricket and curry!

The Heavyweights Take Over

As evening settled in, gothic-doom pioneers Paradise Lost delivered an emotional masterclass. With stunning sound production and what might genuinely be the best live drum set we’ve ever heard, they rolled out their greatest hits. Hearing anthems like “Small Town Boy” and “Say Just Words” live was an absolute spiritual experience.

Australia’s Thy Art Is Murder then tore the place apart. Their signature modern metal sound and crushing death-core riffs whipped the audience into a frenzy, sparking top-tier energy and massive mosh pits all around.

Closing out the festival in crushing fashion were Swedish death metal legends Dismember. Delivering old-school death metal at its absolute best, that unmistakable, chainsaw guitar tone rang out like a final, glorious battle cry to cap off an unforgettable day.

Bangalore Open Air 2026 had its share of frustrating technical interruptions, but the strength of its lineup kept the spirit alive. From local favourites to international legends, the festival reaffirmed the passion of India’s metal community and its appetite for live music at full volume.
