Indian Ocean: Bassist Rahul Ram Bashes Ahmedabad Airport While Touring in Gujrat

Rahul Ram was out and about in the vibrant state of Gujrat when the limits of his patience got tested.

The musician who is a part of the iconic Indian folk-fusion outfit ‘Indian Ocean,’ was stuck in an unexpected situation at Ahmedabad Airport. So, what happened when he walked into the airport?

Rahul Ram could have been anywhere in the world. He could have been at the microphones of big election rallies or in concert halls in New York or London. But he was in the bustling terminals of Ahmedabad airport in India where his path – as a musician — collided with the rigid structure of airport security. It all began tamely enough, a routine announced. But soon, it became a clash.

Rahul Ram’s Bold Statements Echo Across Gujrat

Part of the travels and travelling with the band. Here we are at Ahmedabad airport where our oversized luggage has to be put through the machine, which is correct. But there’s no man at the machine… wo aayega aur jb tk wo aayega aap kahin nahi ja pate hai, kyunki aapko rehna padhega. (They will come, and until they come you can’t move from the spot).

Abhi hum digi-yatra karke andar aaye (we entered using the digital self check-in), but the advantage you get from digiyatra has been nullified by standing here waiting for the man who’ll arrive …when they want… There is no one telling them also that you’ve come and that they should arrive.

Aap khare raho, jab uske dimaag me ayega wo ayega. Ake apna kaam karke fir aap ja sakte ho. Sundar hai na? (You keep standing. When they will feel like, they will come and do their work. After which, you may finally leave.)”

Rahul Ram’s bold statements reverberated through Gujrat, sparking discussions about artistic expression, security protocols, and the intersection of music and everyday life. His critique shed light on the complexities of balancing creativity with practicality in unexpected situations.
