Valvet combine dreamy pop rock with grit and glamour with their EP, “Mirrors & Ecstasy”

Something about Valvet makes high-school chemistry seem like a necessary bond to have. The band brings waves of different influences in their sound, while keeping an individual script to their story. They have had a consistency in releasing and making music, while experimenting and truly enjoying the tunes they put forth. This is their latest single that tugs on heartstrings, soars to the skies and makes you feel again. This is called Mirrors & Ecstasy.

The group from Lund, Sweden know exactly how to grab a listeners’ attention. The first single is called Mountains, and it carries the same poise and majesty. Opening with some acoustic guitar and vocals isolated, you’re listening to an individual almost counting in the band. When the harmonics come in, you’re treated with warm, delectable bass parts that define the edges of the song.

As the rhythm builds, you can almost experience the intensity come in. When the electric elements and percussion come in, you’re scaling the face of the mountain, as an exploration. A thrilling song where textures and layers build organically to appeal to the bare-bones human structure. I loved the precise, memorable solo as well. It leads not as a showboat, but the original lead, playing into the narrative of it incredibly well. Valvet find unique boxes to tick, a surprise, like finding a speakeasy when you’re ready to call it.

Dreaming through your music

Half Measure shows their dynamic songwriting style, while having a soothing, well-rounded approach to finding their tones. The crisp, walking beat pairs with the commanding vocals to paint a pretty picture. They are not assertive in their melody writing, rather make an alcove for you to visit and spend your time in. It is a great way of showing how you think about and make music together, and there’s a special chemistry to forge between all the band members of Valvet.

Giving It Up is one of my favourite numbers, from the way it builds to the tempo of the song and vocals as well. If you think a regular 4/4 is gracing the song, you’re so wrong. It leaves these tiny spaces to enjoy their minimalism burgeoning to having the best of a baroque buildup. Whether you like the way they’re putting their track across or the output, it’s clear as day to see. These guys are rock stars, born, bred and most importantly, made.

Finding the next chapter

Valvet close this charged EP with Falling. You might assume it’s an acoustic number that closes this book. Quite the contrary, this is the bookmark made of concrete and gold. This is where you know they’re placing their cornerstone to build something large and magnanimous. Music that appeals and writes itself into your life.

Jack White recently said during his Rock Hall acceptance speech, “To young artists, I want to say, get your hands dirty and drop the screens and get out in your garage or your little room and get obsessed. Get obsessed with something, get passionate.” It’s bands like Valvet who make that dream possible. You young gentlemen, just earned yourself a lifelong fan:

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
