Jenny Colquitt – Shape | Pure Emotion

American emerging artist, Jenny Colquitt has released a track that’s reminiscent of some early 2000s tracks. It’s always great to hear someone who encompasses a generation’s worth of music in their own.

Colquitt uses Americana, Indie, Folk Rock, and Pop elements in her music. Her influences include Eva Cassidy and Alanis Morissette, both known for their emotional vulnerability in music. As a solo singer-songwriter, she has received the GSMC Award for best solo singer/songwriter in 2021.

Jenny Colquitt is a brilliant performer. Her lyrics cut deep, accompanied by the powerful emotion that’s felt in Colquitt’s voice. That’s not to take anything away from her ability to compose. The use of various instrumentations and percussions is a skill that’s not very easy to gain. Jenny Colquitt has picked the perfect instrumentation to accompany her vocals on Shape.

Her ability to use raw emotions with some driving instrumentals just overwhelms the listener with emotions. Shape is one of those tracks that is packed with so much emotion. The track has the indie rock vibe that we normally hear from artists like Lifehouse, but the subtle frailty that we associate with acts like Sara Bareilles and Alanis Morissette.
