THE LUCIDWAKE-WHITEOUT

THE LUCIDWAKE crack a wormhole to new prog rock with their debut EP, “WHITEOUT”

THE LUCIDWAKE are here to begin a new era in rock. The Bangalore based band are ready to script their own future, inspired by a past in the fusion of genres that has brought them here. When they brought the first pages of their characteristic style with Don’t Stop; the puncture had been made in the void. You’re awake-to search for deeper meaning. You’re in the right place if you’re looking for music that doesn’t just appease. Welcome to the WHITEOUT

In their EP, this band is aiming to infuse elements of storytelling with instrumental elegance that doesn’t just depend on brute force or whipping riffs. The opening of Root N Ash should be enough of a hint to groove to-while enjoying the synth soaked melodies in the background. Vocals are powerful-commanding to a degree that you actually pivot attention. As the song builds, it’s the bass and vocals that take the spotlight. The percussion aids the rhythm in a way that accents the tempo, but doesn’t take away by being too over the top. A starry track with a streak of comet like brilliance seen in glimpses. If you haven’t heard of THE LUCIDWAKE, trust me, this is a great first page in. You’ll earn that track closer with a dose of passion if you have sat through the chapter.

Indie rock making an imprint

When Bleed opens, you might find yourself floating in Pink Floyd like ether all over again. It’s the progressions that we have been introduced to from before, while there are a lot of hints of different sparkling passion. THE LUCIDWAKE use the track to build using the atmosphere, before the gut clenching riff comes in. Perfect distortion, with ample space given for the track to really be enjoyed. When the riff is absent, the synth background becomes like a cotton candy swirl that will draw you further into the song. The band showcase their incredible chemistry in holding that rhythm-almost a second heartbeat to experience.

The soft openings turning into complex, hard rock experiences are always welcome. It shows the kind of charge the rock band can carry, without always relying on heavy gain and high pitch notes. The build is part of the journey, and the band are able to bring some great aural spaces with their compositions.

We close with the single that started at all. As usual, it remains a strong reminder of what a band passionate about their journey in indie music can make. Refreshing from melodies to the kind of tempo and radio rock you might be used to-this is inspired and inspires. The riff has the incredible rage built into its notations that can differentiate itself from something generated. This has been chalked, section by section, to gel into something that represent every member of the band. Long live THE LUCIDWAKE:

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
