‘Blue Hour’ by Tyrin is an Alternative RnB EP that Captures Deep Moments of Late-Night Introspection

Blue Hour’ by Tyrin is an introspective, 6-track alternative/indie RnB EP with elements of pop that captures the essence of deep reflection. It does this with its mellow, quick-paced rhythms. Each track feels like it builds on the last one’s intensity while keeping up this consistent, mellow tone.

The album’s overall vibe titters on the edge of something that sounds like a mic of Khalid in the 2010s, & Sufjan Stevens. This with a deep, reflective and emotional thrust.

‘Blue Hour’: Track-by-Track

‘Blue Hour’: ‘A Little Bit More’-’Shot Glass’

‘A Little Bit More’ is a quick-paced, light and energetic synth-led track with lyrics that capture this balance between something that feels still but is actually dynamic. We find our narrator reflecting on something that has ended, taking away a part of themselves in the process.

“…I’m all out of love…

…I’m sorry I couldn’t keep up…”.

‘Action ’ is an acoustic guitar-led track that keeps up the mellow mood established in the last track. The song’s lyrics reflect a lost sense of identity that moves through moments of apathy and frustration. We seem to role play as an actor putting on a mask, taking on a role that obscures their true identity.

“…Did I waste my time rereading scripts that I (thought) were mine?…

…I don’t see myself in my reflection,…

….I don’t want to play another role…”.

‘Where I’d Fall’ captures this synth-groove that bounces while its lyrics dial up how lost our narrator feels. The lyrics seek escapism in connection, reckless in a bid to feel something. “…Now I wanna jump, would you tell me where I’d fall?…”.

“…I’m just wondering where I’m waking up…”.

‘Shot Glass’ is a melancholic track capturing the desolate nature of feeling lost. Sharp guitars and numb percussion take centre-stage while our narrator dives deeper into the sense of escapism that was established in ‘Where I Fall’.

“…Now I’m getting f*cked-up, n*gga what’s up?

Now when I drink I need a shot cup…

…I think this ride is really my grave…”.

‘Blue Hour’: ‘All Over Again’, ‘Samba’ and Conclusion

‘All Over Again’ is a brighter track with elements of indie pop-rock that seems to describe this incompatible dynamic between two people. Here, our narrator isn’t being truthful about who they are in some way, seeming to walk on eggshells and not fully trust in this person.

“…You think I’m quiet, so why don’t we just keep it that…

…I can tell you it all over again, but you will never trust what I say…”.

It encourages the narrator’s partner to go live their own lives and brea -it off with them.

The final song on the EP, ‘Samba’ captures the passing of time with a muted, cascading guitar and soft vocal. The song is the most introspective of the lot, really diving into what it’s like to be swimming in the narrator’s lost, deep mind, something that feels like a dance almost.

“…Lost myself in my own head…

…I know I’m hurt but I still find a way time smile away all the pain…

…All I want to think about is nothing…

….I’m always in my head, my mind won’t lie down…”.

Conclusion

‘Blue Hour’ by Tyrin captures emotions that feel like they bubble up in the dead of night, staying in them and allowing them to run their course. Moving, tremulous and almost haunting, each jaunt into our narrator’s mind inspires though and feels like it helps our listener seem seen.
