“The End”, by Mary Was A Machine: High-energy alternative rock!

Mary Was A Machine is an electrifying alternative metal band from Brescia, Italy, known for their unique fusion of alt-rock, post-hardcore, and atmospheric soundscapes. Around since 2022, Mary Was A Machine take inspiration from giants like Architects, Deftones, and Linkin Park — and today, we take a listen to their debut single, “The End” — keep reading for my thoughts!

“The End” is an effortless showcase of the band’s ability to blend aggression, heaviness, and raw power with complexity, layering and absolutely beautiful soaring melodies that assault your senses from right the first second. While the fleeting pianos lay a grand soundstage from the very start, the electric guitars are quick to pick the energy up, and along with the surgical, precise drums, the rhythm guitars complete the power equation in the instrumentals, beckoning the vocals; and when the vocals do introduce themselves, they do so with a viral blend of melody, gruff singing and growling that completes the power equation quite amazingly. There’s much to appreciate about the guitar work, the chugging and the chord progressions chosen are quite powerful, and lend an air of elegance to “The End”.

The vocals are well-presented, with an abundance of vocal styles to choose from over the course of “The End” — ranging from guttural growls, to clean singing that transcends registers with aplomb, making for a compelling listening experience throughout the track — and the singing, layered with the vocal harmonies, adds depth, dimension, and punch to the track.
