“Tears Run Rings”, by The Heroic Enthusiasts: Experimental electronic synth pop, with a dash of retro

“The Heroic Enthusiasts” are a duo of musicians, Tabbi and Ferrera. Tabbi and Ferrara were drawn together as a duo due to their mutual appreciation for Brit-pop, New Wave, and Post-Punk, which served as the foundation of their musical connection. Prior to teaming up, both had successful solo careers as recording artists, producers, composers, and multi-instrumentalists. On their latest single, “Tears Run Rings”, they take us through a soulful electronic composition. How do they fare in enamoring me? Keep reading for my thoughts!

The song starts off with a nice crescendo with the tension slowly building, until the beat drops and the vocals surround you, held steady by an upbeat, energetic drum beat that keeps your attention as well as it does keep time– and the energy continues holding steady till the melodically heavy mid-chorus, only for it to be given back in full when the verses do start progressing.

The whole song has a definite focus on the electronic production aspect, seamlessly drifting from one synth to another, slowly building upon a canvas to create something truly futuristic and ethereal sounding. The duo’s influences are apparent here, and I’m glad to report that they have been used to good advantage, while still letting them create and weave a sound that very distinctly them.

This is all rather gracefully brought together by the mix and master, which retains power and good dynamics throughout the duration of the song, with clever use of space to accommodate all the various pads, the pluck synths and the percussion within the sound sphere.

In conclusion, I think that “Tears Run Rings” is a great song, and deserves your attention this week. Check out the song here!
