Proklaim, who’s been gaining a steady foothold in the music scene as a rhyme artist with flair and technique, brings us an evolution of his reggaeton/hip-hop fusion style on his latest single, “Scars”— keep reading for my thoughts!
Unlike most other Proklaim tracks, “Scars” is not the kind to jump at you with energy right from the get-go. Sure, the atmosphere is there, and the elements are rich and layered right from the second zero, but this time around, Proklaim takes his time to build the energy and anticipation. When the beat does drop, it’s a proper downtempo, dark hip-hop affair in the percussion, a solid foundation for experimentation with rhymes and verses.
Experiment, he does; right from the start of the verses, after the sung intro, Proklaim’s rhyming style is charismatic, and he trades off speed for complexity in rhymes. Each verse, each line somehow rhymes elsewhere and does so really well throughout the song, giving rise to easter eggs throughout “Scars”.

The lyrical content is aggressive, and Proklaim demonstrates his ability to tell stories through his music, and does so well on “Scars”. There’s no stone left unturned in the beat, too, with the whole of the production ensemble giving this track its signature laid-back yet deep, intense sound.
Take that, and blend it with a great mix that takes care of the ad-libs and the field quite nicely, and you have a song that is both well-engineered in the box and well-executed by the artists themselves. The end product is highly listenable, and we’re looking for what Proklaim is going to next put out.
