Scared of Sharks Return With Thrilling Rock Single “Stumble”

Scared of Sharks took shape in 2016 when brothers Taylor and Jack decided to form a band to play at the annual Cobargo folk festival in their hometown of Mogareeka, NSW. Inspired by their love of punk rock and roll, they started playing gritty, energetic shows around southern NSW. In 2017, Taylor and Jack moved north to Wollongong to attend university. There, Scared of Sharks found their footing on the local live music scene. It wasn’t until 2021 that Scared of Sharks released their debut single, “Beach Wog.” Soon after, drummer Tim Jong Un and bassist Loui Crouton joined the lineup when founding member Jack departed for travels abroad. The reshuffled four-piece started taking things up a notch with their own DIY regional tours. They brought high-octane live shows to festivals, house parties, and legendary Melbourne pubs alike.

On their latest single, “Stumble,” Wollongong punk rockers Scared of Sharks showcase an electric new sound packed with hard-hitting riffs and head-bobbing rhythms. Right from the opening bars, bouncing basslines and driving drums propel the track with relentless energy. Meanwhile, the threatening guitar lines slide in like something ripped straight from a thriller soundtrack, adding an ominous edge.

The lead singer unleashes raw vocals that command center stage throughout the pounding three-minute runtime. His gravelly delivery cuts through dense walls of distorted guitars with an urgency befitting the song’s cinematic sonics. Speaking of which, the dense guitar work is a highlight, and the memorable power chords on the infectious choruses are too good.

Just when you think things couldn’t get more intense, a face-melting guitar solo tears in around the three-minute mark, taking an already engaging track to new heights of adrenaline-fueled rock glory.

On “Stumble,” Scared of Sharks showcases a refined yet relentless new style that will surely translate to high-octane live shows. Fans of punk-tinged rock with a touch of drama will find much to love in this thrilling new single.
