Ever had one of those days when you feel like time is moving way too fast and you’re struggling to keep up? Monique Maion enunciates feeling in a rather catchy new single, “TENTO.” The São Paulo-born, Venice Beach-based singer-songwriter showcases the vibrance of Latin jazz and trip-hop in the latest single, creating an ethereal experience that makes you wanna slow dance under low lights
Taken from her upcoming album “MAION,” scheduled for release on November 13, “TENTO” was mixed by renowned producer and engineer Mario Caldato Jr. The production goes for a stripped-back sound, with dusty Rhodes chords, chill percussion and a warm bassline carrying it. You can also her a Bristol trip-hop influence in the arrangement, but Maion makes it her own through layered Portuguese vocals and Brazilian musical sensibilities.

The song speaks about missed opportunities, wasted hours and the struggle to make peace with things that don’t always go according to plan. Maion gets deep about the idea that time waits for nobody, even when we wish we could hit pause for a little longer.
She also touches on her personal journey in the song. This adds another dimension to the track. Having experienced severe epilepsy and near-death seizures, she has found songwriting to be an cathartic way of dealing with life’s challenges. That sense of tenacity comes through in the music, giving “TENT” an intimate edge that goes beyond its easygoing production.
