“Man’s Best Friend” Gets an Instrumental Rock Ode by Alec Berlin

New York City based instrumental guitarist Alec Berlin’s most recent offering, “Man’s Best Friend,” is a mesmerizing showcase of mastery and sentiments. Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Berlin who is a Boston’s New England Conservatory alumnus has had a musical career that spans twenty years. He has collaborated with renowned artists like Elton John and Rob Thomas and even played in Broadway productions such as Green Day.

The song begins with acoustic sections as the lead parts seep in. Alec Berlin builds to a more intense and heavier tone. Berlin’s guitar phrasing is nothing short of awe-inspiring. The arrangement of the song is dynamic and handles the musical narrative flow aptly. Strong lyricism is exuded from the body of his instrument via his expressive fingers. A great instrumental which is not about flash but expression! The song is a modern rock song with a contemporary alternative exterior but a class rock core. He has a penchant for combing emotions and songwriting brilliance with perfection in the realm of instrumental rock.

Like all great music, this song has a powerful emotional core. The title and single art depict an emotional bond between humans and their millennia old friendship with their perennial furry companions. This is a listening experience that is both instantly recognizable in terms of the musicality of phrases and refreshing. With “Man’s Best Friend”, Alec Berlin shows himself as a master composer who makes good honest music that is beyond the limits of the spoken word but expressed in the eternal language of music.
