LOR – Sip | Folksily Dark

LOR is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter who cut her teeth singing in the Toronto bar circuit. Having started her career in the live scene, LOR has registered her debut singles Used To and now, Sip on major streaming platforms. She states that she found inspiration in artists like CocoRosie and My Chemical Romance, and I am inclined to concur with this sentiment.

I am in complete awe of Sip. This track is minimalism at it’s best. LOR’s airy vocals accompanied by a very simple rhythm guitar and slow, deep beats create and atmosphere and timbre of darkness that fit heavily in her unique blend of Dark Pop, Folk, and RnB. The lyrics are raw and based on true, lived experiences as put by LOR. I find the light vocals in the background add to this raw darkness that LOR wishes to showcase. The guitar goes through it’s own journey of twists and turns, being distorted in various ways, creating tension and releasing it at different points. The 808s add this depth that creates a pit in the listener as it hits.

I find that Sip is a track of pure, raw emotion that LOR is so beautifully able to channel into a minimalistic masterpiece. I highly recommend it for days when you don’t feel like yourself and need a little escape from the world.
