‘Lie/R’ by Freakuensea is an alternative rock track that screams with a sense of frustration that seeps through every line. Its grunge-inspired sound adds a level of depth to the soundscape that allows a sense of unease that feels unhinged at certain points.
The song’s punchy percussion intensifies its dark yet punchy guitars. Its soundscape is uneasy yet dynamic, with chord changes that ramp up this mood. The lyrics are angry, with lines that feel directed at something that’s taking a toll and feels out of control.
“…This is why I chose to maintain (my) distance from the likes of you…”.

‘Lie/R’: Frustration
The frustration is voiced on ‘Lie/R’, screamed through the mic. The emotion feels palpable, holding within it a sense of a sense of rebelliousness that the frustration gives way to. Every instrument highlights a facet of this deep, yet explosive mood, building and building to a telling guitar solo that rounds the song off.
There is a sense of movement throughout the track’s soundscape that makes the track feel unsteady and on edge. This is especially apparent in the song’s refrain, where the chords change in a way that feels sharp and open yet uneasy when the sound returns to its centre.
In all its grunge rebelliousness, ‘Lie/R’ by Freakuensea is rough around the edges. This is apparent with its deep, punchy guitar rhythms and steady percussion, maintaining a sense of frustration and moody unease throughout the track. This makes the song a kinetic yet moody listen.

About ‘Lie/R’
1. Congratulations on the release of ‘Lie/R’! Could you tell us a bit about what inspired the song?
Thank You so much & thanks for having us here! The song’s inspiration comes from our personal experiences of being in surroundings where everyone is manipulative, deceitful & have hidden agendas when they interact with you. They create toxic drama or play dirty politics, you can see it happening in workplaces sometimes. Lies, deceit and manipulation are essentially the theme of this song.
2. How do you approach the songwriting process?
It’s a bit weird because all our songs are old ideas that our guitarist Abhishek Behera made some 6-7 years ago. Even some of our releases from this year, “Unravel” & “Bliss in Agony” are ideas from at least more than 4 years ago. So it always starts from the guitar and then everything else is built around it. “Mr Right” is the only exception to this method since its lyrics & vocal melodies were created by our frontman Tsooraj & then the instruments came in. We try to be in our most natural state while practicing together or by ourselves at home, because you never know when something beautiful just accidentally turns up.
3. Could you tell us about your debut EP ‘Bliss in Agony’?
After releasing 8 singles, we decided to make an EP within a certain timeframe. That decision forced us to push our boundaries and brought out the best in all of us. It helped us to solidify our sound as a band. Originally we wanted 4 songs but ended up with 3. The EP’s title track “Bliss in Agony” explores loneliness, “Lie/R” is about lies & deceit but the character has grown out of such tendencies, “Disgruntled” is about a person who blames everyone else and just complains too much. So all the songs are like seperate stories with different lessons from life.

About Freakuensea
4. Could you tell us a bit about how Freakuensea got its start?
The band was formed by Abhishek Behera (Guitarist) back in 2021 and he also acts as the primary songwriter. But even before that, between 2015-2019 there were a lot of ideas that he came up with in his bedroom and he wanted to put those songs out there. That was kind of the main motivation to get a band together and start our journey as an independent artist with Abhishek being the focal point.
5. How have you, as a band, perceived your sonic evolution?
As we were just saying, our decision to make this EP has really solidified our sound. It’s a journey of course, the more time passes, the more you grow and the more you wanna explore. If you go back to our previous songs, they have a particular Classic Rock sound but there is a bit of psychedelic too. But for the most part our songs have a Post-Grunge & 90s Grunge feel, and that’s what we really doubled down on. Perhaps not being stuck on one particular type of sound is what helps us evolve.
6. Do you have a message for your listeners?
We’re just so grateful to have them with us on this journey even if they are not in the thousands or millions. Music has helped us deal with so many things and now we want to give that same feeling back. In fact we’d say that if anyone wants to talk about something don’t hesitate to message us. We’ve got nothing but Love for all the people who support us!
7. Is there anything else that you would like to share? Especially for artists like yourself.
Don’t forget that our Debut EP “Bliss in Agony” will be released on November 8th! Other than that we’re just happy & grateful to be able to make music. As for our fellow artists, the only thing we can say is do what you love and make songs that sound good to you. Don’t hold them back. We see so many artists who are talented but they don’t put themselves out there. It’s an amazing time to be a musician right now so don’t fall into some kind of negative trap. Learn, work hard, and don’t let anyone else tell you how to feel. That would be all!
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions!
