‘Sucker’ by Kelsie Kimberlin is a funky indie rock tune that takes its listeners on a rollercoaster reeling through heartache. Its lyrics tell the story of someone who’s lost in their melancholy, ebbing and flowing through emotions that pulls the soundscape from distant ebbs to expansive flows.
Funky rhythms pair with wistful, lost lyrics to create a unique juxtaposition that seems to pulse like a dance rhythm. It’s almost as though the melodies were made to get lost and spiral in.

‘Sucker’: The Spiralling Ebbs of Heartache
‘Sucker’ begins with tight bass guitar melodies that slap with sharp rhythms, sucking us into this sonic world that sounds bright and groovy. Our narrator laments on a love they lost, distant from the heartache while the melodies seem to pulse all around them at first.
“…Where’d you go when I needed you most?…
…I’m a sucker and you showed me, I’m alone now and I need you…’.
The narrator is lost, lost in the heartache and the rhythm. A rhythm that uses a sinful groove while attempting to take you (the listener) too. This is before the soundscape seems to expand, free-falling into a descending spiral that the narrator seems to embrace with the momentum.
“…Life’s not real when I’m without you…”. Here, the narrator briefly spirals with soundscape, allowing the spaced out melodies to pool in the heartache they feel. This is before the melodies come back, almost in full spring, consistent, constant and solid.
‘Sucker’ by Kelsie Kimberlin takes on heartache and crushing loss, seemingly exploring the lines someone can cross when they’re feeling familiar, reckless heartbreak. Its melodies embody loss and aching vulnerability, communicating how those feelings seem to come to us in strong ebbs and flows.
The song is Groovy, Wistful, Vulnerable and feels like an Ebbing Spiral.
