‘Brain Stew’ by Kasem is an alt-rock cover of a Green Day classic that feels refreshingly punchy and in-your-face. The track’s energy feels sharp and a bit detached at the same time, with lyrics that seem to stream out of our narrator as though they’re having an out of body experience.
The song’s build seems to stew, building with each gritty guitar strum and percussion rhythm. The song feels like an out-of-body experience wrapped in an energetic, yet detached rock tune.

‘Brain Stew’: Refreshing Edge
‘Brain Stew’ feels like a stream of consciousness attempting to explore niggling thoughts that fester in your brain. The song’s instrumentation feels appropriately punchy, keeping pace with our narrator’s sporadic, but constant stream of thought.
There’s an undertone of frustration our narrator seems aware of but mostly detached from. Here, the lyrics help describe a seemingly endless, mind-numbing thought-process. One that is easier to stave off during the day “…I’m having trouble sleeping…”.
‘Brain Stew’ seems to use its rhythms to keep the narrator in this state, detached but viscerally frustrated with that sense of detachment. The song reflects our narrator’s mind in a state of overwhelming overdrive.
“…What’s the point of delirium?…”.
The band’s take on the song helps layer in this sense of dissociation into the soundscape. Punchy, close to minimal instrumentation meets detached, but overwhelmed vocals. This to create what can only be described as an out of body experience.
‘Brain Stew’ by Kasem seems to describe every familiar 3 am thought that’s crossed our minds. It’s emotion roots itself in detached, out of body frustration that only keeps building in intensity as the thoughts grow louder.
