The track starts out with a great atmosphere, making use of vocal sampling and smooth jazzy pianos in the background to set the stage for the beat quite nicely. The drums hit smoothly into the mix, while Larry introduces his lyrics, jumping starlight to a verse. Larry’s vocal delivery is powerful and raw, with a slow, relaxed rapping style that goes together beautifully with the beat, laying down a flow with no effort, it seems.

As we move towards the hook, the writing is catchy, and is super well supported by the ad-libs in the background, which are tastefully executed. The sections are differentiated rather well with the gentle rise and fall of energy in the mix, and all in all, it makes for a catchy, great listen.
The lyricism and flow on “High Life” are consistently great, with experimentation going on in the mix throughout — there are straight flows, there’s syncopation and excellent support from the vocal layers that give this track a polished, well-rounded out sound. Not to mention, the delivery is vicious — with an aggression that can be felt even with the slower pace, this part of the track truly stands out.
The mixing and mastering on “High Life” is tight, warm and focused — the vocal processing, in particular, stands out, with its laser focus front and centre, as we’ve come to expect from a hip hop track — while the basses boom low and powerfully. The hi-hats and percussion hits up top make for well-rounded sound that’s thoroughly enjoyable to listen to.
