‘Headed For a Dive’ by Honeysucker is an electrifying 6-track indie pop/rock debut that takes us through a fast-paced narrative bustling like nightlife. The album’s soundscape feels narrative-driven, seemingly moving through neon-lit streets in what should be the dead of night.
Here our narrator wants for connection and comfort before they find it and realise they don’t need it. Each track takes us through the fleeting sense of this want/need before it fades away like the night in the wake of dawn.

‘Headed For a Dive’: Track-by-Track
‘Headed For a Dive’: ‘New Dust’-’Buzzcut Girls’
We begin quick-paced at ‘New Dust’, a song that feels vibrant and kinetic as it sets the scene. The song grooves but is in no rush, while our narrator layers this no-rush calm with this sense of put-on cosy comfort.
“…Reach into the goodie bag and grab yourself a treat,…
…Stroke your ego till it screams,
You deserve it…”.
This song also sets up an expansive last chorus where emotions and mood seem to cascade in, intensifying the emotion that has been simmering under the surface since the start. On this track, our narrator is in want of the comfort they seek on a warm yet cold night.
We swiftly move onto ‘Loneliness’, a quiet song that builds to something passionate and raw. Here, we dive head-first into our narrator’s whirring mindset, which was hidden under the surface in the last song. Quiet melodies build while our narrator stubbornly holds onto fleeting feelings before the soundscape expands to question this desperation’s motive.
“…Am I just confused in love,
Will loneliness tell me?…”
‘Frida Kahlo’ is a brief interlude that captures ambient noise as we find the titular character moving from space to space. Here, we get a sense of where our narrator physically is, floating from space to space, from loud sound to ebbing night quiet.
We move into a loud club, where ‘Buzzcut Girls’ seems to blare. The song feels like a descending club banger that abruptly stops as eyes meet from across the club floor.

‘Headed For a Dive’: ‘BQE’, ‘Lost’ and Conclusion
The loudness from ‘Buzzcut Girls’ abruptly transitions to ‘BQE’, a quiet acoustic love song that feels cocooned in its own warmth. The acoustic guitar-led track emphasises the song’s lyrics, where our narrator seems to be telling their sweet, warm almost nothings.
“…Now the only thing I’ll ever need is you
And me under the BQE…
…Making love under the BQE,
That’s where we ought to be…”.
The song is slow throughout, though it does begin to pick up the pace as it fades out.
This fade-out abruptly leads us into the quick-paced, almost playfulness of ‘Lost’. Now, our narrator seems sated, and almost dismissive after their realisation. Realising that their want for love wasn’t a need and that the loneliness from that cold night seems to have faded, at least temporarily.
“…Where’s the door? I don’t need a lover anymore…”.
But there’s also this undercurrent of pain, that seems to show us that that loneliness and pain still remains.
“…Anyone who ever said it’s better to have loved and lost,
I’d like to show them all that I’ve lost…”.
Conclusion
All in all, ‘Headed For a Dive’ by Honeysucker is a narrative-driven odyssey that takes us through a cold, neon-lit night on the town. A space where loneliness wants to be smothered by comfort, making wants feel like needs until those needs are satiated.
All this making for a quick, yet engaging listen.
