Too close to home. The ROLF releases a song that might seem as personal as tracks from Bo Burnham’s Inside, for in a long time, humans have faced the same problem. People have sang songs, written poems and made films about this. With the amount of content produced, a lot gets lost. This is ROLF’s new track, No Peace of Mind(for this Peace of Meat). It’s a fun, personal account that everyone can relate to. It only helps that it rocks either ways.
The track uses the familiar sound that Tame Impala chased for the first two albums. Its a hazy fuzz that can represent delirium, which to be honest, is what I have been lost in as well. The guitar flourishes peek through the fuzz and vocals every once in a while, a familiar warm blues pattern. Got to have something you still relate to, isn’t it? Layered harmonics guide the protagonist through the verses, making a fun, addictive track.
However, we haven’t talked about the main part of the track. It’s this moment that starts at 2:38, which is a complete tone change and style. It’s a breakdown, but the familiar voice tells us the story again. A much more mellow approach before we slowly build back to the verses. There are jazz organ swells even between this, you don’t want to be able to hum the ending in your first listen. Some good groove to this track, and a nice, quick ending.
The track also features another A side, Days like these. Prepare yourself for some good riff based rock, which is what it put plainly. No extras and no flavoring you wouldn’t generally like. This is far from your ketchup and omelet artist.
