“Ybor City”, by Benjamin: A soothing rock instrumental

“Ybor City” is the latest single by Benjamin, who has been putting up his music on Anghami, but is now ready, with his Spotify release, to make his craft and music available to a much wider audience. Keep reading for my thoughts!

Right off the bat, the song comes infused with a couple elements of country rock, fused with a delightful 1990s-2000s sound in terms of the steady rock thumping drums, as well as the breakdowns that make up a good chunk of the song, laying the stage down for the screaming lead guitars to make their mark on the listener.

There is good amounts of variety in the production, encompassing a good selection of lead guitar tones, harmonies, melodies, and counter-melodies that make “Ybor City” a fun and engaging listen. This is also tied together by the solid mix and master, that makes great use of the soundstage, and assigns just the right spot to each element of the song– so as to not cloud up any bit of the stage, keeping things nice and intelligible.

There is great control in the low-end, and a special mention goes out to the drumming and the percussion choices in the song, that make their presence known– and with the odd bit of ear candy that finds itself scattered across various parts of the song, this is overall an entertaining listen.

Going forward, one cannot help but look forward to what will come out of the kitchen for Benjamin, and “Ybor City” is a promising start. Check out the song here!
