To compare Jodi Heights with an artist obscure to many of us now would be unfair. Her music is Adele’s with plenty more drama, options and style of display. There’s a hint of Broadway theatrics, and she’s the black as well as white swan in her performances. Her latest track is called White Knight.
White Knight uses many tools tried and tested before from a critics bloated, pained perspective. Listening as a fan of music, we hear many more layers. Jodi Heights creates this complex disarray between electric guitars, drums and the piano, the lattermost taking the lead. Her melodies are very clearly composed and take the lead on the ivories. The entry by the drums and electric guitar liven it up like a ballad, and I can get more of this any time.
One Year Wiser was her 2017 album. It was chockful of impressive tracks, her life’s work to be precise in a way. Jodi has evolved her taste and sound since then, and this track is a reflection of the same. It creates this vortex of creating and ending a story within the song, and there’s satisfaction listening to it. The engineering and production work has been quite mesmerizing as well, the levels balanced out to create this pyramid of sound, the way it is to be heard.
