Dee & d’Z – Flow | Nu-Jazz

Today , we’re listening to duo Dee & d’Z debut release “Flow” – an upbeat nu-jazz composition with soaring vocals and an optimistic message. The duo was formed by Austrian singer-songwriter Bernadette Dengler, aka Dee, and Dutch musician Hans-Peter de Zeeuw, aka d’Z, in 2020, and they have been working in the studio with a bunch of fantastic musicians ever since. Their latest release shares a positive, feel-good sound that is beautifully captured by vibrant instrumentation and heartfelt lyrcism.

“Flow” is introduced with a jazzy piano motif and some drums that set the mood for Dee’s soothing vocals. The song is an uplifting tune about being in the present moment and making the most of it. Dee sings about her positive perspective towards life and is accompanied by energetic instrumentation throughout the performance. The bass and piano work really well with one another in the verses, creating a pulsating beat that’s hypnotic and engaging.

Life is a flow / Just like those forces / It takes you to where you should be”.

As the track progresses, the artists introduce trumpets, lush harmonies and what seems like intricate improvisation. The way each instrument complements the other shows that the musicians on this track know how to capture the essence of Jazz, and in this case, they carry the theme of the track exquisitely. Dee & d’Z bring forward their ‘nu-jazz’ sound with this debut release that features modern jazz instrumentation, emotive cadences and catchy choruses; an all-in-one treat to the ears.
