“Can I”, by Super Saiyan Jay– Feel-good hip-hop

Super Saiyan Jay, a fresh rapper on the up-and-coming from Palm Beach, Florida, brings smooth flows and inspirational lyrics on his latest single, “Can I”– keep reading for my thoughts!

One thing that immediately rubs you off just the right way on “Can I” is the rapping style– with a syllable-heavy style that treats ad-libs just as importantly as it does the main lines, this makes for a really interesting energy dynamic throughout the track; and this remains preserved and flourishing throughout the whole track.

The beat is also of appreciation here, with its bell pads, as well as the wafty pads that create great atmosphere going in; The low end is crisp and has excellent control and bounce, with the sound design playing a golden part here as the melodies remain catchy enough, but do not detract from the primary focus of the track, which lies in the vocals. The rapping is also of note– with a triplet-heavy style that immediately makes its way into your head right from the fist listen, and that’s meant as a compliment– there’s very few songs that can pull this off to quite such an effect, and “Can I” is one of those tracks.

There’s also great stuff going on in the percussion department, with the high energy introduced by the hi-hats remaining well and nicely preserved throughout the mix– and as a result, there’s great balance, and the blending with the vocals is also quite great, something I was able to appreciate a good bit throughout the track. The vocals, speaking of which, there’s a great sense of power in the mix, putting the vocals in front and in focus.

Overall, “Can I”, by Super Saiyan Jay is one of those tracks that pushes the boundaries and tries to do thing differently, to great success. I’m betting it’s a fun listen for you just the way it was for me– check it out here!
