Markus Murphy‘s recent record, ROLLING, offers a seamless blend of current sounds with traditional melodies. The dream aspect incorporated in the slow funk groove truly gets under your skin. The song has such a powerful vibe to it. There’s a great combination of melody and the Lofi sound, which is slowly but steadily becoming a prominent sound in recent songs. The song has a lot of inspirations, not only from diverse genres, but also from vintage sounds. In between all of these trials, the mood is kept so masterfully. The tiny vibratos were crucial to the overall sound palette. The voices express the lyrics in such a gentle and graceful manner that I was completely enthralled as the tune proceeded. The lyrics are straightforward, yet they have an emotional impact due to the vocals’ powerful melody.
Guitars and E. piano are used so vividly in the soundscape that they easily cross over. The vocal harmonies lift the mood substantially above the thick foundation. As the song advances to the chorus, we begin to hear some pretty funky guitar riffs, which is fantastic. The drums keep the beat going in a subtle way, which is supported by the bass lines. The structure moves at its own pace, completely immersing you in the atmosphere, which is really powerful. As the song comes to a close, we can sense the instruments perfectly integrating together. For me, that was the wonderful portion that compelled me to listen to the song over and over again. I’m confident that once the music reaches a wider audience, it will be well received by everybody.
