Aprils Away are here to show a side of melodic metal that hasn’t been explored in years. The band from Kochi brings their own erratic and energetic soul into every song. Their 3 singles through 2025 have received great love from the metal fans in the Indian subcontinent as well as abroad. What they carry here is an emotive tale that still captures the undying core of the human spirit. This one is called Breathless.
The story is inspired by a person the band met, someone fighting a terminal illness. Through times, things became dire and more difficult for this person, yet they persevered. It is something that is beyond logic or the material world that we know that makes something like this happen. Aprils Away collaborate with the legendary band Peekay for this one’s sound.
A thrashy riff opens this song, with all the energy carried through the guitar tone and eventually the vocals. It has an incredible innate groove in it – one the band carries and brings with their own voice as well. They have established through Unbound, Rise and Signs that they can carry a certain panache to their compositions, focusing on the deeper message lyrically and zealously.
The relentless fight is what they are able to capture, and the rhythm mimics the same. I loved how the drums and guitar work don’t dull the edge but rather sharpen the tune to make it a surgical element to listen to. Aprils Away are sharp, on their toes and as lethally powerful as blunt force trauma from a concrete pylon. These are not the songs you can hear just once, they become an anthem for your life:
