Jacob Rountree accesses another sonic plane
“All those black letters just hold me back”. That is the line that lives in my head long after the song has ended. His minimal guitar plucking in the background makes you lean into the poetry of the words. If he reaches the chorus, you’re humming it along, because it’s difficult not to. There are tones of the electric guitar that bleed in, with that crispy distortion that makes you yearn for more. Sure, there are parts of the song that sometimes rock harder than your Motley Crue track. Yet, Jacob Rountree keeps the soft melody as the glistening brass tacks that the song’s very “point” could be. If you’re visiting this road, you better leave your heart at home. She’ll search for a permanent place here. There are musings to be explored, and some to be remembered forever. This one is the latter.
