“On Top of the World” – Says MM Keeravani, as ‘Naatu Naatu’ Wins Best Original Song at Oscars 2023

It is a day to remember for India as music director MM Keervani and songwriter Chandrabose’s ‘Naatu Naatu‘ has become the first Indian song in a Telugu production to win an Academy Award in the ‘Best Original Song’ at the 95th Academy Awards. The incredibly viral track is from the 2022 south Indian blockbuster RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli. The movie features actors Ram Charan and Jr NTR, who were seen attending this year’s Academy Awards.

Additionally, Singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava performed the song garnering applause from the crowd at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Actor Deepika Padukone, donning a black dress, introduced the performance amid cheers from the people.

With his persuasive speech on the occasion, MM Keeravani captivated the audience’s hearts. He stated, “Thank you Academy. I grew up listening to carpenters, and now here, I am with the Oscars.” He then started signing, ‘”There was only one wish in my mind, so were Rajamouli and my family. RRR has to win every pride of India and must put me on top of the world.’ Thank you Karthikeya, and Thank you all!”

Naatu Naatu joins Slumdog Millionaire’s Jai Ho for global prestige

Naatu Naatu also won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song in January. MM Keeravaani and Chandrabose join a select group of Indians to have previously won Oscars. This includes legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray, costume designer Bhanu Athaiya, composer AR Rahman, lyricist Gulzar, and sound engineer Resul Pookutty. Furthermore, the song joins the ranks of Jai Ho from 2009’s Slumdog Millionaire after receiving the prestigious award.

Portraying British India, RRR has mesmerized global audiences. The film is selling out the box office in Japan and recently held its largest screening yet in a Los Angeles. Surprisingly, the ecstatic audience danced along to Naatu Naatu during the screening. The song was filmed outside the Presidential Palace in pre-war Kyiv, Ukraine. It is an infectious dance battle between Ram Charan and Jr NTR’s characters versus their British counterparts.

Michelle Yeoh and Brendan Fraser make history at the 95th Academy Awards

Everything Everywhere All at Once took home 7 awards including best film, best actress, directing, and best-supporting actor to win the 95th annual Academy Awards.

Brendan Fraser‘s won Best actor for his portrayal of a 600-pound English teacher attempting to mend his connection with his daughter.

Also, Many rejoiced as Michelle Yeoh made history by becoming the first Asian woman to win the best actress prize amid ongoing discussion over Hollywood’s history of bigotry towards women, performers, and filmmakers of colour.
