1. Hey TaniA Kyllikki! Welcome to Sinusoidal. I was completely blown away by your work in “I Struck Gold With You.” The song feels deeply personal and intimate. What inspired you to write and share this particular piece of music with your audience?
A: I really appreciate that! Thank you very much!! My song, “I Struck Gold With You” is much more than just a romantic love song; it was written to express the universal essence of love.
After what was the release of my other song, “In These Eyes,” in June 2023, I got kidney infections all year long, and a few of them turned into sepsis. I had to cancel all of my music plans because I got sick and have been on antibiotics since September last year.
Everything that happened to me occurred after I finished my third treatment for my autoimmune diseases. My body was so weak from it that it couldn’t fight off infection.
My husband came back to the UK early to take care of me for a few months. Therefore, unfortunately, we lost money on his original plane ticket, as well as on all taxi fares for his trips to and from the hospital.
While I was going through all of this and losing blood, I was sitting in the bathroom thinking about how amazing my husband is and how pure his heart is. He stayed up all night, every day, to help me to the bathroom, wash my hair when I was too dizzy to stand up, bring me food, clean the house, go grocery shopping, look after our cat, and pray with me. He refused to let me become depressed; he told me, “Baby, you will get through this.”
I was afraid I would lose people’s attention because I said more music would be coming, but I was too weak to record. That’s when my husband pulled out his keyboard, and we made new songs for the album. Once again, he was doing all he could to show me love.
During all of this, my fans, who are like family to me, showed me so much love. Music magazines even wrote heartfelt things about me in an attempt to wish me well. So while I was in pain in the bathroom, I thought about how much my husband loves me and how beautiful his soul is. That’s how the first few lines came to be.
Many people around the world have loved and supported me as an independent artist, and I love them all so much for that. That’s when the chorus came to me: “This is what love feels like: having you by my side. This is what love feels like. I feel so warm inside. I struck gold with you.” There are parts of it that are also a love message to God, because I wouldn’t be here without Him.
After I finished writing my lyrics, my husband, Rynellton, worked around my vocal arrangement to create a beautiful production.
I decided to make a music video in my living room with a selfie stick that cost me only £5. I had no idea that a simple video of me singing in my husband’s ear would get over a million views in just one month.
It’s amazing, and reading all the comments and music reviews makes me cry. I’m so moved by how well people have responded to our release.
Setting aside what I look like in the video (the makeup is just a cover), I was really hurting and needed an ice pack and strong painkillers to get through it.
However, it’s rewarding to witness the remarkable progress in such a brief period, and my song continues to climb daily.
The thing I love most about creating this song is knowing that it was deep love that birthed it, which is such a beautiful thing.
2. The song builds beautifully from a dreamy intimacy to a more cinematic feel in the second half. What was your vision for how the arrangement and production would evolve over the course of the track?
A: Instead of the normal repetition of the same parts that most songs have, my husband and I wanted to create memorable and special moments in the song that bring the true meaning of the song to light. With, I struck gold with you, I imagined watching a movie about a true love tale, and given where the depth of my lyrics came from, I wanted listeners to experience the authenticity of my song. Everything came from mine and my husband’s heart and soul.
3. Your vocals on this track are incredibly emotive and vulnerable. How do you tap into those raw emotions when recording such moving songs like “I Struck Gold With You?”
A: It’s a natural thing for me to do; I’m a highly emotional person who feels everything deeply, and my music and singing are no exception. I’m the same way I was when I was a little girl, using my hairbrush as a microphone to sing big, soulful ballads with lyrics I didn’t understand at the time, but I felt every syllable deep in my soul. And now I am a woman, singing and expressing my own life experiences through my music.
4. This song seems perfect for quiet reflection. What do you hope listeners take away from or feel when listening to “I Struck Gold With You”?
A: I want everyone who hears my song to feel loved and appreciated, and to have a sense of serenity in their spirits. A sense of belonging, and know that you are good enough to give and receive love.
5. Collaboration seems to be a significant part of your artistic journey, particularly with your husband, Rynellton. How does working alongside a partner influence the creative dynamic and outcome of your music?
A: My husband, Rynellton, has significantly contributed to my artistic growth throughout the years. He expanded my musical horizons by introducing me to sounds that I may not have been receptive to prior to our encounter. He is an adventurous individual when it comes to music, and he thoroughly enjoys shifting his approach. He recognized an unconscious potential within me that required only the appropriate level of support and development to manifest what was already there. In the past, I have encountered negative situations where teams attempted to confine me within strict boundaries, causing me to feel confined and restricted. Being able to express what I am feeling as both a songwriter and a singer is an amazing sensation. The remarkable aspect of collaborating with my incredible husband is our ability to separate our personal relationships and maintain a professional demeanor in order to accomplish the musical tasks at hand. Both of us possess a deep love for music and always generate fresh musical concepts. Both of us provide a multitude of assets, and it is when we combine all of these that something special occurs. I deeply appreciate my husband for his unwavering support, belief in me, and his refusal to not hinder my pursuit of ongoing development and realization of my utmost potential.
6. You’ve spoken about channelling personal hardships and health challenges into your work. How does bearing your soul in your art help you process or overcome difficulties in your own life?
A: Music serves as a form of therapy for me, a role it has played throughout my childhood. Deriving inspiration from life situations and channeling them into music provides me with a profound sense of psychological healing. I consistently endeavor to transform any terrible experiences in my life into positive ones, reshaping the narrative to inspire and elevate others while still maintaining a connection to the underlying themes in my music. I strive to ensure that my songs resonate with a diverse range of individuals, making them relatable to a wide audience. In many ways, music has been a source of salvation for me, and I am grateful to God for bestowing upon me the innate talent of music since birth. So as long as I am on this earth, I will continue to create and release songs that will profoundly influence people’s lives and linger beyond my own existence.
7. What’s next for TaniA Kyllikki? Can you give us a glimpse into any upcoming projects or collaborations that you’re excited about?
A: Despite my ongoing health challenges and upcoming hospital appointments, I am determined to complete the recording of my second album, Free-Spirited, scheduled for release later this year. On my social media platforms, I will provide an official update regarding this. Prior to its release, I will be releasing additional singles throughout the year, leading up to the official launch of the finished album. Additionally, I will soon release a third single from my album. I have been contemplating the idea of travelling to the United States for a few months to do a small tour with my husband. For a while, we’ve been wanting to arrange some performances and shoot some videos in the States for me. However, this decision is dependent on the results of my health examinations. I will provide regular updates to everyone. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone who reads my interview and is a believer could offer a prayer on my behalf. It’s been very challenging and worrying for me, my husband, and my loved ones. I definitely want to be okay so I can see through all of our music plans.
