Joshua Ketchmark – Blood | A Soul Catalog

Blood by Joshua Ketchmark is the tenth studio album that is released by the artist. The album is titled Blood not only because of the lyrical content but also because of the people who contributed in making the record. Blood is an amazing album populated by enticing guitar melodies, honest vocals and an endearing vulnerability.

No Stopping Us starts off the Blood album with its soulful vocals and shuffling guitar play. The guitar moves smoothly along the edges of the vocals and is a steady companion to the artist. With smooth tones sailing along the background, rounding the edges, the song is warm and full of good vibrations. We also see a beautiful bridge constructed with echoing beats, wise vocals, clinking guitar details and an acoustic guitar number.

The country guitar fest continues to roll with an upbeat number, Covered in Blood. A total guitar fiesta, the spot light constantly moves to light up the jolly guitar melodies and rhythm. The song’s energy starkly contrasts the morbid song title and lyrics and drives your mood up from 1 to 100. Follow Me Home is the third song in the album. Pacing itself and flowing slowly like clouds in the sky, the vocals dwell within the exuding honey melodies of the guitar and evoke a deep nostalgia and a dull ache.

The fourth song, Been Gone begins with raw baritone vocals of the artist. A journal of the past, the lyrics narrates stories of small moments and objects shared with a lover that has floated away with the sands of time. The next song, Death Trap, immerses the listener in an ethereal trance with its melodies and soft harmonies that glides through the being and pervades the soul.

Deadliest Thing shows off the vocal range of the artist. With tenor lifts, lilting harmonies and haunting lyrics, the song is truly heartbreaking. The mellow guitar work complements the vocals wonderfully and is the perfect sad song. Casual Subtleties begins with a sharp and crisp guitar cycle that reveals a fresh clarity in the protagonist. With violin details and a gentle tone, the song melts into you.

Ashes consists of a slow and stretchy drum and guitar groove. With honest lyrics and passionate vocals flooding the gaps, the song is touching. Crossbone marks the beginning of the album’s final quarter. With steady and punchy guitar work, the song is pleasant and charming. We see some rocketing vocal work towards the end. In the penultimate song, Once the Whiskey, the protagonist ponders the contents of his mind under the influence of the heartbreak drink. Soothing violins serenade his thoughts and are accentuated by periodic guitar pulses. Tazewell County Line wraps up the album with its fantastic cocktail of guitar textures – smooth, melting, acoustic, soulful and glowing.

The album is the artist’s love letter to the guitar – articulate and magnificent in its rendition. The artist navigates the vessels of his heart and bleeds in the only way he knows how and it is exalting to behold.
