Tyler Kamen has been able to visit portals of different worlds. This is great for us mere mortals, as he does bring back souvenirs of the seas he has seen. Each album and single released till now has been a prog journey through space and time, through fantasy and sci-fi. He makes escapism worth it, for that’s why you’re attempting it in the first place. His latest album takes us to a whole other place, in a new kind of spirituality. This is called Third Eye Temple.
I remember reviewing his fantasy based album Cornucopia Modus last year. It was a fantastic journey, and he makes the music extremely visual. In this one, he is guiding you through the steps once again. The wonderful creative from New York has garnered skills that will allow him to design worlds to detail. The first single itself captures so much soul, layered with harmonies and instruments that carry the passion he does for the music. Simple progressions offset the real complexities Tyler Kamen is able to design in his songs. The so called “bells and whistles” are what I focus on-showing his true depth of musical knowledge and flow.

When he transcends between genres seamlessly, that is where you can see his compositional vision. Skies Awaken to Charming King Snake has such a big switch overall, yet you don’t get to hear it. Tyler Kamen uses this as a smorgasbord for the ideas in his mind, making an appealing invitation for a universe that only borrows the element of time from us. Everything else exists in different realms. The easing vibe of Charming King Snake will let you relax in bed of raspy distorted guitar and catchy Gilmour like blues.
Another epic number, Embers Gold in Autumn Lace is something that bleeds through themes and styles. The percussions take over initially, layering with soothing guitar melodies and ambient harmonies. The continuation of singles from here has to be heard like an original LP. The tie till Fata Morgana is incredible, his vocals and instruments becoming pockets of enriching tones and styles. The elements spoken of are poetic, balanced in the production so that you can appreciate all that goes on inconspicuously.
Tyler Kamen knows how to balance between incredibly dense textures to softer extracts like in Those Roads of Old. This is how you balance a composition to bring attention to its parts-becoming more of an interaction than a tonal reverie. Third Eye Temple closes out this powerful album-Tyler in his highest power by the beginning of the song itself. Progressions themselves might be those you haven’t heard before, for good reason. They are channelled with a passion only an artist of multifaceted interests like Kamen has.
The New Yorker has found himself a niche in the prog indie rock world where he loves to reside. It is how the theme of each album becomes a hunch that he holds on to and develops. The result is something out of an imagination that is worth residing in, till time elapses. Follow him on Instagram for updates as well:
