Their latest track “Water For Rain” is a a nostalgic nod to the late 80s New Wave. We are catapulted into the song, with that one tight snare hit, followed by a cool synth riff. The drums really propel the tempo of the music forward. The synths coupled with guitars provide a great harmonic backdrop. There is a firm groove established here which can’t help but make you play this song on repeat. The drums and synth riff are the core of the catchiness of the song. Sea At Midnight crafts a really brilliant song here.
The song takes on the pressing issue of climate change with raw honesty, evoking a sense of helplessness that’s all too familiar in today’s world. The issue of drought in the state and the drying up of the Colorado River along with laments against the unsustainable growth are expressed.
The Sea At Midnight strikes a perfect balance between messaging and production. “Wait For Rain” manages to turn heavy themes into compelling musical expression. Don’t sleep on this one!
