Statues of Love is an independent music project from County Wicklow, Ireland. Their songs mix alternative pop, rock, and dance, inspired by a very personal memory of a lost love in Wexford during the summer of 1994. Sonically, the music leans melancholy and ethereal, with beautiful female vocals guided by synths and guitar. Their first release was in May 2023, with “Always Miss You Sunday 3 o’clock.” Since then, they’ve independently released 20 more songs, and many have received radio play in Ireland, the UK, and the USA. Their debut album, Happiness Gone Sad, was released on Friday, 6 February 2026, featuring 10 selected tracks. Influences include New Order/Joy Division, electronic artists, Bad Lieutenant, The House of Love, and ABBA.
Statues of Love has released a new single, “The First Time I Saw You.” It kicks off with retro-sounding keys and steady, anthemic beats that immediately get your body moving. As the song goes on, shimmering synths slowly come in, and before you know it, you’re already tapping your toes and vibing.

Then the track really lifts when the dreamy, almost atmospheric female vocals enter, and you feel like you’re floating. The reason it works so well is that the synths stay consistent while still carrying a subtle trippy, meditative effect. The whole soundscape keeps going through small variations, which makes the song feel alive and replay-worthy.
It’s the kind of track you’ll only truly appreciate when you listen fully, ideally with the volume up a bit and in headphones, because the layers and changes in the synth/musical textures show up more clearly.

Lyrically, it tells a warm story of someone remembering a blind date on a sunny Sunday in southeast Ireland. From the moment they see the other person arrive in a red car near Wexford Bridge, there’s an immediate and powerful connection. The repeated line, “The first time I saw you, I knew / Dreams can come true,” underlines the idea that this meeting fulfilled a long-held hope. The simple, specific details like Sunday afternoon, arriving early, the red car crossing the bridge, make it feel like a memory you’d want to keep close, warm, and cherished forever.
