The Cumberland River Project is Frank Renfordt. He began his musical journey at ten, inspired by a guitar gifted by his parents. As a teenager, he played bass in the local rock band RING, a passion he still pursues. After prioritizing family and career for years, he returned to music in his mid-fifties, drawing inspiration from trips to the US and connections with Nashville musicians. Under the name “The Cumberland River Project,” he has released two albums and several singles, gaining a global fan base. His storytelling songs earned him a spot in the UK Songwriting Contest finals and an award for “Outstanding Achievement in Songwriting” at the Great American Song Contest. His second album, A Smell Of Gravy, was honored as Best Country Album at the German Rock & Pop Awards.

Liliia Kysil’s dreamy, almost whispered vocal delivery is perfectly matched to the song’s theme – intimate enough to feel personal, yet light enough to maintain the carefree summer vibe. Her performance captures that mix of excitement and tender vulnerability that characterizes summer romance.
The musical arrangement is particularly effective in how it builds this feeling of euphoric nostalgia. Each riff hits perfectly, creating these little moments of joy that accumulate throughout the song. The chorus “And I feel so alive, On this midsummer night” is instantly memorable, becoming the kind of refrain that naturally invites singing along.
Thematically, the song by The Cumberland River Project beautifully brings together various elements of summer romance – the chance encounters (“Two hands that touch by chance”), the youthful freedom (references to bonfires and Tom Petty), and that bittersweet awareness of time’s passage. The metaphor of a wildfire for uncontrollable passion is cleverly reflected in the song’s warm, energetic production.
