TETO - ABOUT ME AND YOU

Teto bring love and other emotions with new album, ‘About me and you’

Welcome to Teto’s library, where music is a true form of expression. Finding rich emotional themes every time, this duo has been able to create some very memorable tunes. I would suggest wearing your astronaut suits right now and climbing aboard the space shuttle. We are going into space and exploring the physical and metaphysical with their latest album, ‘About me and you’.

Though we are looking at a vision of space, Jasper Nicolas and Angel Nicolas keep you in anything but a vacuum. You are a part of their vivid imagination and incredible storytelling, all seen through the eyes of humans figuring out life. Opening with more time with you. The song starts with Jasper’s sweet vocals and acoustic guitar finger-picking. Heavenly harmonies guide you to the middle of the song, where the chorus becomes another poem that you want to own. I enjoyed how each of the songs was kept simple but instrumental motives always showed great care and attention to detail.

After listening to the poignant ‘Guiding Stars’, I found myself at a celestial cul-de-sac with ‘The sun, the stream and me’. I love how the instrumental aesthetics elevate the emotions of the song even before the lyrics come in. Their duo doesn’t over-produce or polish their songs beyond recognition. That human touch is very much there. From songs cherishing alone time to time with your loved ones, it is amazing to hear how your perspective of the world shapes you.

If you listen to this music, you will appreciate its organic nature. If you listen closer, you will know how much positivity and appreciation it brings. Teto don’t wear clay masks and pretend to make an impact. They are just writing songs that make them and their listeners feel alive. When I was listening to ‘The light around you’, I could see this warm embodiment of genuine joy and care radiate for the one I was singing this to. We get a jaunty, fun tune with ‘My special little idiot’. From the rhythm, making this the toe-tapping number it is, I feel Teto are sitting in my living room, singing to me.

There is a country-rock energy that comes in when I listen to ‘Ebony and Ivory’. Perhaps it’s the appreciation of another’s personality and the dreams they carry that come alive in the song. It has a stadium-rock-like chorus which makes you really wonder: isn’t it the voice of the people that makes these kinds of songs forever gems?  Rather than bank on the emotional gravity of these songs, the duo is able to also depict their versatility in how they perform them.

With several incredible albums lined up in their catalogue, Teto shows us that there is no dearth of live human-to-human music that is to come. ‘About me and you’ is an album that you are going to treasure for a long, long time.
