Taylor Lally Weaves Whimsy and Reflection in Her New Single “Yabadabadooda”

Based in County Down, Taylor Lally is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter who crafts music rooted in alternative pop, lo-fi textures, and lyrical storytelling. Her vocals echo Rickie Lee Jones, while her guitar sensibilities draw comparisons to John Martyn.

On September 5, 2025, she released her latest single Yabadabadooda, produced with Ian Barter, known for his work with the late Amy Winehouse and Dermot Kennedy. Issued Independently via Saturn Rising Records, the track was inspired by a past lover’s “light language.” A music video accompanied the release on YouTube.

To begin, the lyrics unfold as playful fragments of memory. They balance magical imagery with sly humor, creating a tone both light and layered. The lines, “time travelling paradigm trip” and “midnight magic carpet rides” frame the song in a fantastical dreamscape. At the same time, the chorus reduces this language to a catchy refrain: “Yabadabadooda.” It functions like a chant, a spell, or even a mischievous laugh, perfectly embodying the absurdity of love’s private dialect.

Meanwhile, the music brings these themes to life. Gentle acoustics and the imagery of a campfire introduce warmth and vulnerability. Soon, reggaeton rhythms shift the tone, turning the song into a soft dance-floor invitation. The falsetto in the chorus stands out, shimmering like sparks over firelight. The song shifts between groove and haze, weaving magic through its textures.

Lastly, the bridge intensifies the story. The phrase, “It’s cruel to inspire…” slows the momentum, making the song pause in thought. Delivered in near-spoken tone, it shifts the track from carefree to sobering. When the rhythm rises again, it feels like release, lifting the listener into motion one final time. As the song closes in sunset hues, balancing fun with reflection, it leaves behind both energy and an afterglow that sticks in memory.
