Proklaim is a Namibian rapper known for his experimental approach to hip-hop, blending genres like Afrobeat, Amapiano, and reggae into his music. Influenced by artists like Tupac, Wu-Tang Clan, and Lauryn Hill, his tracks are a mix of thought-provoking lyrics and infectious rhythms. On his latest single, “Soul Session”, he once again sets the stage on fire with his music — keep reading for my thoughts!
From start to end, there’s elements of old-school boom bap hip-hop that would take you right back to the 1980s with the use of sampling, old-school drum machine samples, and bounce in the rhythm — and when Proklaim settles the energy of the song with his flow, his rapping, as always, impresses with the multitude of rhyme schemes, and the clever use of ad-libs to further accentuate the sound.

The production on “Soul Session” takes on a bit of an experimental hip-hop avatar, in true Proklaim style, with a blend of modern electronic elements, boom bap, vintage hip-hop and G-funk elements that keep the bounce going and the energy up high. The low-end is filled with articulation and great sound design, while the rest of the atmosphere sees use of vocal layers, lush reverbs, and tight layering to keep the sound cohesive.
“Soul Session” represents a series of experiments done right, with apt use of sounds, lyrics and melodic themes with the pianos and basses to get the mood of the track just right. Deliberate by nature, the production plays effortlessly with the mix and master, serving to elevate the experience with faithful preservation of timbre and flavour in each of the instruments and a wide, expansive soundstage, resulting in the kind of track that you’d go back to, time and again.
All in all, “Soul Session” by Proklaim: A winner of a track! What’s not to appreciate, as we’re excited for what Proklaim has next? Take a listen to the track here:
