‘SIS (She’s Something)’: Track-by-Track

Where we are and Where we Were

The EP opens with its titular track ‘SIS (She’s Something)’, a sultry RnB tune with a seductive groove characterised by syncopated guitars and percussion. The song is feels powerful with lyrics that know their worth. “…I’m not that little girl, I’m a woman…”.

“…Show me what you’re bringing to the table…I’m no wine and dine…”.

These ladies know what they want and aren’t afraid to ask for it.

‘The Only One (Acoustic)’ is a love song  with pretty lyrics that describe a love that feels heady and light. It describes the emotions of someone who feels understood and validated. Loved. “…I know I’ve found someone I belong to…baby you’re the only one, got exactly what I want…”.

Its metaphors are poetic and airy, like lines off of a love letter. “…Like canvas and colours, you get what I’m drawn to…”.

‘Can’t Live In The Past’ is a guitar-led RnB track with pop elements that seems to be in the perspective of the heady lover who’s rose glasses are off. Though subdued, its lines seem almost sympathetic, telling it like it is. The narrator refuses to hold onto a feeling that belongs to the past.

“…Even though your heart was meant to break, you’ve got to let go of the past…

…I can’t live in the past no more…”.

Turning Point

‘OutSide’ is another RnB track with pop elements that brings back the sultriness of the first track while introducing another unique groove. It describes a girl’s night out after a break-up, or a night-out to get away. “…Don’t wait up, I’m not coming…”. It’s seductive and fast-paced, just as a night out on the town would feel.

The last song on ‘SIS (She’s Something)’‘Goes Around’ is a rap heavy track with a weighty synth and a darker edge. It’s beat plays with samples and strings that ring through the track, adding an interesting flair. It’s dark with a frustrated edge, with karma being at its core.

“…What goes around comes (back) around…”.

It leaves the listener with a sense of the EP’s spunk and attitude.

‘SIS (She’s Something)’ by KARMA is a sassy body of work that filled to the brim with attitude and fierce energy. Its brief story is bad-ass and holds a sense of collective unity that is comparable to girl groups of yore.
