Hailing from Danbury, Connecticut, USA, he comes from a family with strong Irish musical traditions and is currently based in Catskill/Hudson Valley region of New York. Griffin is best known as the frontman of The Ruffians, the Irish-American punk/Celtic rock band. As a solo artist he mixes up Irish folk, punk, Britpop, and rock. He is influenced by the likes of The Ramones, The Smiths, The Ramones, and Billy Bragg. Seán Griffin has also performed with notable acts such as Shane McGowan and the Popes, Black 47, Enter the Haggis, and Gaelic Storm.
Coming back to the single, this is an energy packed, uptempo classic garage rock/blues rock type song that grabs your attention from the first note. A cool genuine start with a bang kind of track. The guitars, drenched in wah, flanger, and phaser effects, with tasty bluesy licks, show that Seán Griffin is unafraid to channel the classic, tasty sounds of hard and blues rock. There’s a beefy, bridge-like bass line grounding the whole groove, linking up with punchy rhythms and giving the song its reliable backbone. It’s solid in the way a well-poured drink is. Familiar but with just enough flair to keep it interesting.
Love the chorus here, pops with infectious energy. We also get a fun music video in which the protagonist in a minivan waits at a stoplight. He then daydreams a vintage Hollywood daydream with a Corvette and a mysterious woman. Definitely watch the full video for the light humorous end.
So, pour in your beers or Cuba Libres, a nice cigar, and savour this hot track by Seán Griffin.
